6 minute read

Term
One year, renewable. It runs until the next general meeting.
Amount
Settled by the board, and sent to you in answer to your request. We do not write a price nobody has decided.
What it gives
A vote at the general meeting, and the news before it becomes public.
Ask to become a member

Becoming a member means being part of the association that runs the platform: being told what is coming, taking part in the highlights, and having a say on direction at the general meeting.

Membership runs for a year. The amount is settled by the board: send your request through the form on this page, and we will send you what to do.

What membership pays for: webinars stay free, workshops stay open at a solidarity rate, and the guidance directory stays checked.

Four returns

What membership gives

  • A vote at the general meeting — You vote on the direction, on the annual report and on the renewal of the board. One membership, one vote.
  • The news before it becomes public — Dates, workshop openings and calls for volunteers reach you before they go online.
  • A place at the main events — You are invited to the association gatherings, in Dakar as in Paris, and you may bring someone.
  • The right to ask for accounts — You may ask how the money was used, and get the answer in writing.

What membership does not give

  • No faster access — Appointments are taken in the order they are asked for. Membership puts you ahead of nobody.
  • No reduced rate on sessions — The solidarity rate exists for everyone, does not depend on membership, and is asked for in good faith, with no proof required.
  • No role inside the platform — Becoming a member is neither applying as a volunteer nor becoming a relay: three separate commitments, and nothing obliges you to hold more than one.

What do you vote on at the general meeting, and what not?

The general meeting is the only place where the direction of the platform is decided. Sitting in it is the heart of membership, not an extra.

What you vote on

  • The annual report for the year just ended.
  • The direction for the year ahead, including opening new territories.
  • The renewal of the board and of the people who sit on it.

What you do not vote on

  • The content published on the site, which belongs to the editorial team and its review.
  • Anything concerning a person we support, which never leaves their file.

Note

  • The vote is held in person or remotely: the diaspora does not lose its say for being far away.

What do you receive before everyone else, and what never?

A workshop place goes quickly. Getting the date a week ahead of everyone else is the most concrete return membership offers.

What you receive

  • The calendar of webinars and workshops, before it goes online.
  • Calls for volunteers, with the description of the role.
  • The minutes of the general meeting.

What you do not receive

  • No commercial mail: what reaches you comes from the platform and from nowhere else.
  • No approach from a third party: your address does not leave the association.

Note

  • You stop these messages by replying to one of them. It does not end your membership.

What are you invited to, and what does it not open?

The main events are where the association accounts for what it has done, and where it can be answered face to face.

What you are invited to

  • The yearly gatherings of the association, in both territories.
  • The review sessions where the team presents what has been done.
  • The chance to propose a subject for a webinar.

What it does not open

  • No priority on places at a public workshop: they are taken in order.
  • No access to support sessions, which do not depend on membership.

Note

  • Workshops stay on the solidarity rate for everyone, member or not.

What can you obtain, and what is never disclosed?

Asking for accounts is not a hostile move: it is what tells an association apart from a fundraising page.

What you can obtain

  • The financial report for the year just ended.
  • How spending splits between activities, running costs and tools.
  • A written answer to a question raised at the general meeting.

What is not shared

  • No named document about a person we support.
  • No figure that would let someone be recognised within a small group.

Note

  • The request is made in writing and answered in writing: a spoken account cannot be read again.

After you send

What happens, in order

Four steps, and none of them happens on this page: there is no online payment.

  1. Your request reaches the board — We reply in the language of your message, to the address you gave.
  2. The board sends you the amount — You receive it in reply, together with the means of payment available in your country.
  3. You settle by the agreed means — Bank transfer, cash handed over in person, or mobile payment. The treasury records the arrival of the sum.
  4. Your receipt is issued — It carries a number, it reaches you at the same address, and the membership then runs for the year.

Asking to join

Ask to become a member from this page

The amount has not been settled yet: we will answer with the amount and how to pay it in your country. Nothing is paid here.

A first name is enough. We do not need your legal identity to answer you.
This is the only way we will answer you.
Ways of paying are not the same from one country to another: that is why we ask.
Optional. Joining needs no justification — write only if you want to add something.

Where my request stands

You recognise it by what you have received

There is no tracking page: no reply means the request is in the queue, an amount means the board has replied, a numbered receipt means the membership is recorded.

What does your membership receipt carry, and what does it leave out?

It records that the sum has arrived, and it carries a number that is never taken back. It is not a tax receipt, and it says so itself rather than letting you assume otherwise.

What it carries

  • The name and address of the association, and its registration number.
  • Your name, the sum in figures, the date and the means of settlement.
  • A serial number, continuous and without gaps within the year.

What it does not carry

  • No tax reduction: a membership gives things in return, and the board has not settled that point.
  • Nothing about what you experience elsewhere in the service: a membership knows nothing about support.

Note

  • The receipt is issued by hand, by the treasury. As long as no payment provider is connected there is no automatic sending, and we do not pretend there is one.
