Where we stand

Accessibility: the real state

An honest statement is worth more than a claim of compliance. Here is what we measure, what we have never measured, and therefore what we do not know.

The level reached: Not compliant

The word does not come from the known faults, listed further down: it comes from the fact that no audit has been carried out. Compliance is proved; without proof, the word is "not compliant". The site aims at level AA of the international accessibility guidelines, and several of their requirements are measured automatically — but measuring four things is not auditing a site.

Statement written on September 9, 2026. No audit had taken place by that date.

What we do not know

This is the most important part of this page, and the part most rarely written anywhere else.

Never measured

  • No real screen reader — This site has never been walked through with NVDA, VoiceOver or TalkBack. The markup was written with care; nobody has heard it.
  • No full keyboard journey — Tab order and focus visibility are written into the code. Nobody has crossed a whole journey without a mouse to check.
  • No test at 200 per cent — Zooming to 200 per cent on a 360-pixel-wide screen has never been tried. It is the check we miss most, because it is the one that most often breaks a layout.
  • No outside audit — Nobody outside the team has examined this site, and no disabled person has tried it with us. Until that happens, this page will say "not compliant".

Measured at every release

  • Text contrast — Text set over a photograph is measured against the lightest pixel in its own area, slide by slide.
  • The size of touch targets — Everything that can be clicked or touched is measured: at least 44 pixels across, footer links included.
  • The composition — No gap of more than 120 pixels with nothing in it: a screen that scrolls through emptiness is a screen people leave, above all on a phone.
  • The weight of pages — Every public page is weighed. A heavy page is unusable on a slow connection, and that is the connection most of the people this programme serves are on.

Known faults

What we know does not hold

Each fault is measured in our colours when this page is displayed: it leaves the list on the day it is fixed.

The colour of text you select: paper on bright green.

Measured contrast: 2.57:1, where 4.5:1 is expected.

Recorded on September 10, 2026.

What the site already does

Written into the code, not yet put to the test

These measures are intended and verifiable in the code. They do not stand in for the tests that are missing: we name them so you know what has been attempted.

  • A skip link at the top of every page, straight to the content.

  • A visible focus outline, never removed without a replacement.

  • Icons always paired with words, never on their own.

  • No time limit on any form or any journey.

  • Errors are announced and explained, never only coloured.

  • Content pages stay readable without JavaScript.

  • Animation stops when the system asks for less motion.

  • A low-data mode that lightens the page without removing anything it says.
